Big Sister

Other than a few little tidbits here and there the blog has been pretty quiet since the birthday post on the topic of one sweet little girl.  You know pregnancy and the lack of time to sit down and think it was pretty much all I could do to keep up with a weekly pregnancy update..which proudly I did.  Anyway I figure it's well past time for an update on Miss Addison.  (Eventually maybe I'll get around to posting the backdated topics that are in my blogroll, you know things like Halloween, Christmas and those types of things that never got blogged...But that's promising a lot so we'll see.)

Addison,

We worried how you would do with a new baby in the house.  Not so much about you being jealous because you WERE. SO. EXCITED. to be a big sister, but more that you were going to love him to death.  So far you definitely do love your brother.  Since the minute you met him you cannot hold, hug, kiss or nuzzle his head enough.  I mean you LOOOOOVE him.  Borderline obsessed with 'brother'.  At the hospital you cried both days when you had to leave us, the first day because you thought that something was wrong with mommy, the second day because you just plain didn't want to leave your family.

I'm fairly positive that no less than 1,000 times a day I have to tell you to "That's enough, stop kissing your brother", or "back away from his face" why you think you need to be approximately 3 centimeters from his eyeballs when you talk to him I cannot comprehend nor can I convince you otherwise of.

Anytime you see an opportunity to 'help' whether it be change his diaper, give him a bath, pep talk, whatever you go drag your stool out of the bathroom to stand at changing table height.  You'll grab diapers, put clothes in dirty baskets, grab his blanket.  Pretty much anything you think you can do to help you want to do!  Trying to help mommy pump is awkward though.  Seriously, you can stop its weird :)  You are obsessed with me feeding him exclaiming things like "oh mommy your boobies really do make milk!" or when I am pumping you cheer me on to "fill that bottle up mommy!".  Seriously where do kids get these things?!

If I'm not in the room and he starts crying I have to move quickly, because if you don't immediately come to me to tell me that brother is crying, it's because you've decided to help him yourself.  Whether it's trying to give him a pacifier or shake a toy near him.  You can frequently be heard saying "It's ok, sissy is here, sissy is here".  :)  So freakin' adorable.  You also love to sing him songs.  He's heard lots of your rendition of Rock-a-Bye-Baby and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

Overall I don't think we could have asked you to do a better job stepping into your role of big sister.  Yes you are incredibly in the way sometimes helpful, but it makes me happy that you are interested in him and want him to be here rather than turning into a huge jealousy match. As long as nobody tells you that you can't help do something all is right with Addison's world.  He couldn't have asked for a better big sister!
