Still One Busy Bee

Things have still been busy as ever in this house, hence the lack of blogging.  We took a chance to take a bit of a break this past weekend when Tony's parents both came and stayed the weekend.   I still accomplished some Addison birthday party purchasing/planning, actually a TON of it and Tony's mom picked up a lot of stuff for the party too!  It's getting way to close!  But I made my visit to Office Max to have them do some printing for us, and a big cart full at Jo-Ann fabric of things to decorate with and things we need for the food table.  I also ordered the plates/napkins/cupcake wrappers/cupcake decorations from the internet and Tony's mom said she would pick up the last things that I needed to order.  This party has made me an Etsy addict...I may need help!! :)

Aside from the shopping we left Addison with her grandma and went with Tony's dad to Michigan International Speedway on Saturday for the Nationwide race.  He had never been and we hadn't gone since we camped in the in field for the June race in 2009.  It's only about a 35 minute drive from us so we figured why not.  It was neat we got seats much higher than we normaly do, higher as in as far up as you can go!  We were able to see the entire track rather than just a few cars comming off turn 4, I wish I would have thought to grab the camera cause it would have made for a lot better shots than I usually get when we are there!  

Other than that we pretty much spent the weekend just hanging out, letting the grandparents get some baby QT.  It was pretty nice to have a very chill weekend for once!  Now back to the ruckus that is the work week!

The Never Ending Bedroom Remodel....Floors, Trim, furniture

I've been in hiding from blogger other than a few cheap post but I've been busy around here.  Things are getting accomplished though!

We finally got around to {almost} finishing this project.  I am so, so, so excited to have one HUGE thing checked off my list!

A few weeks ago we decided using a belt sander to sand the floors just wasn't gettin' the job done, so we shelled out the 65 bucks and rented a huge floor sander and an edge sander and got the sanding done in a matter of hours!  Amazing what tool's made for the job can do!

After we sanded I vacuumed the dust, and vacuumed more dust and cleaned a little more before I put down a coat of stain.  I used Minwax in Walnut.

After the stain had plenty of time to dry (because we were stalling on buying the 50 dollar gallon of Polyurethane)  I cleaned the floor yet again to free it of any dust, and started applying coats of Minwax Oil Modified Water Based Polyurethane in Semi-Gloss. After each coat of poly had a chance to dry (min four hours) I lightly sanded and applied the next coat, a total of four.  And I am in love with it.  I failed to take anything but iPhone pictures of the shiny floor :)

I spend the last few nights after work painting the trim boards that I had primered and patched up last year so that we could get them installed.  We did that after work yesterday, and today I patched/painted over nail holes and window trim.  All that is left now is to replace/get some outlet covers and we need to cut new window sills (my dad offered to do this for us so just waiting on him to come take some measurements)  because the old ones were rotted when we pulled them out during demo.  Photo bomb to follow:

I LOVE IT!  Glad we decided to go the way we did with everything.  And I can have my bedroom back as soon as the finishing touches are done!

{four} why did you start your blog?Because I wanted to be able to document Addison's life better than you can in a baby book, I wish I would have started it when she was a newborn or better yet when I was pregnant.  

{five} what are you looking forward to this summer?Addison's First Birthday, Sun Shine & Water!

{six} do you have any family traditions for the 4th of July?We've been having a 4th party every year lately but this year we are skipping the huge bash and doing it a few weeks later for Addison's big party.

{seven} what’s something new that you’ve tried in the past few months?um, refinished some hardwood floors, much easier than I expected and LOVING the results

{eight} what is the perfect a/c temperature?We don't have air conditioning aside from a window unit in the bedroom, so any a/c feels good to me on a hot day!

{nine} what was the last movie you saw in the theater?OMG, Saw IV maybe?  It's been at least 3 years since I have been to a theater.
